Summer safety tips for senior citizens beat the heat-2015


India is a tropical country. In India summer heat goes up to 49 degree Celsius in peak summer days. God made our body with resistance power, but we should follow sum tips to beat the heat in our daily life. People know the some common tips learn from elders to beat the heat. In olden days there were very few industries and very few vehicles that produce more carbon and other gases cause increase the heat apart from hot sun.  In modern days more industries and vehicles are produces more such gases that emits more heat. Some people carry one onion in their pocket to beat the heat in summer and some use to go for swimming, but the elder people (senior citizens), kids and women in common won’t do.






Summer safety tips for senior citizens:

Elderly people having less vigour and immune system in body, their body does not having resistant power to beat the heat especially in summer. According to the CDC, elderly people are more at risk because:


  • Elderly people do not adjust as well as young people to sudden changes in temperature.
  • They are more likely to have a chronic medical condition that changes normal body                   responses to heat.
  • They are more likely to take prescription medicines that impair the body’s abiliregulate             its temperature or that inhibit perspiration.

They should follow the tips given below.

  1. They should mostly time spend staying in the house only.
  2.  Have to take liquids and water preferable. In liquids use oranges and pulpy juices, Oranges are having more C vitamins and it work as antioxidant..
  3. They should always wear cotton clothes in summer.
  4. Ifthey want to go out should carry umbrella or hats with them.
  5. In case dry tongue, more sweating or no urination they should contact Doctor immediately.
  6. Eat vegetables and salads a lot preferably.
  7. Wash face, hands and legs frequently with water in a day at least five times.
  8. Due to excessive sweating, body salts are excreted and in order to maintain balance, one should consume added salt in their diet. Hypertensive people should take salt as per the doctor’s advice.
  9. If you need to get out of the house and don’t drive, call a taxi, a friend or a transportation service. Do NOT wait outside for the bus in extreme heat.
  10. Water melons, coconut water, fresh fruits, butter milk and also lemon juice with salt are recommended.

A balance of sugar and salt will help the body regain its lost nutrients.
